Blankets For Shriners Hospital

Later in the day,  I had the opportunity to meet a group of cute Activity Day girls (ages 8-11) at the Sandy Library!

Prior to the event, I received donations of fleece to use to make blankets for Shiners hospital.  (Shriners is always in need of blankets as every child receives a blanket at the hospital).  

Thanks to my mom for helping prepare for the event by cutting strips at the edges of the blankets so the girls could focus on tying them during the activity.

When the girls arrived, we talked again about our handz and discussed all the things that handz can do for good.  These girls selected something to write on their paper hand that they would do for good in the coming week.

  

They were all so excited to tie the blankets and get them ready for the children in the hospital!

books to donate to the children at Shriners!

Silver Mesa Elementary

I had the AMAZING opportunity today to meet with a cute class of first grade students at Silver Mesa elementary!  Their teacher, Amy Sangren, is a master with these students.  I was so impressed with their ability to follow her instructions.

We talked about how 'magic' our hands are and how we should use them to do good!  

They took a minute to share with their neighbor something they would do in the next week to use their 'handz' for good.  A few students were selected to share their ideas with the group and I loved the things they shared - from helping their mom clean out the dishwasher to reading a book to a little brother.

At their desks, they wrote the things they committed to do good with their 'handz' in the upcoming week.

I asked them if they had heard of Shriner's hospital.  Most of the kids hadn't.  We talked about sick kids.  The students had brought toys and books to give the children at Shriner's and decorated the gift bags.  

They also wrote great cards for the children at Shriner's.  We talked about cards that they would like to get if they were sick and they really did a good job thinking before writing and drawing their cards.

I enjoyed giving them each a hug or a high five after they completed their cards.  They each got an autograph card with the handz4service.org website so with their parents they can use the website to get more ideas for providing service.

Such a fun day at Silver Mesa Elementary!
