March of Dimes Walk For Babies

I was a premature baby.  While I obviously don't remember anything from when I was a baby, I know that it was very scary for my parents that I was born 6 weeks before my due date. They told my parents that I probably wouldn't be able to use my arms or legs and that my development would be delayed.

I heard about the March of Dimes Walk for Babies in Salt Lake from a friend and then found out that the organizer (Cynthia Lyman) was actually an alumni of my sorority - Alpha Chi Omega and that some of my sorority sisters were already volunteering at the event as well!

I had so much fun wearing purple (the color for March of Dimes) and meeting many of the children who have benefited from March of Dimes and families who have needed the help March of Dimes provides for healthy babies.

Check out their website:

I love that March of Dimes is focused on helping moms have full-term pregnancies and also that they research problems that threaten the health of babies.

I loved seeing all the youth walking in the March of Dimes walk.  Even a very young child can experience the importance of giving service and feel the excitement of being involved in something that benefits someone else!  I asked the children I met who they were walking for and I loved that they all knew who they were walking for and that they were giving of themselves for someone else.

Walks and runs for causes are a GREAT way to get children and youth involved in service.  And - something the whole family (and even the whole neighborhood!) could do together!
