The New Miss Utah International 2014 Is...

I received an email from Mary asking me to give her a call while I was in class.  I saw the email on my iPhone and stepped out of my classroom, calling her within minutes of receiving the message!  She MADE MY DAY by informing me that I was awarded the title of MISS UTAH INTERNATIONAL 2014! I may have screamed in the hallway…

She also told me several other things during that same phone call, but I have to admit that I kind of stopped listening after she told me I was Miss Utah International! I was so excited for the news! I kept calling my mother until she answered to share the information, and as soon as I walked back into class I had to explain to everyone why I was overly ecstatic and couldn't stop smiling!

The Interview

I interviewed with the International Director, Mary Richardson.  What an amazing lady!  We had such a great conversation - it felt like I had known her for years and it felt like a reunion of friends instead of an interview!  She let me know, however, that she had many applicants from Utah and that she had already interviewed several but still had more interviews to complete before making a decision which she hoped to make by March 1st.

The Beginning Of My Journey

I had my dress and my fun fashion outfit.  I had shoes and had practiced walking.  I was excited and ready to participate in the 2014 Miss Utah International Pageant!

I messaged the director, asking for a pageant date and she told me to contact the national director. After doing this, I learned that this year’s pageant was cancelled. I was devastated.

Instead of a pageant, the International pageants were accepting applications with pictures and then conducting interviews to determine the representative from Utah, because of some confusion with the pageant’s local director.  I quickly submitted all my paperwork and a picture with the hope of still obtaining the title of Miss Utah International, so I could have the chance to use the title for promoting youth service and still participate in the International Pageant!
